Love in action

Dear children, let us love not with words or speech but with actions and in truth. 1 John 3:18

In John 14:15, Jesus taught his disciples that if they loved him, they would keep his commands. The evidence of our love for God is not so much in the things that we say as it is in the things that we do. Words are easy but actions prove their worth. Remember that love is not self-seeking. It seeks the fulfilment, the strengthening, the giving and the honour of others and not of oneself. Love is not so much a feeling as it is a verb, a doing word, an action!

Never forget that our love is firmly rooted and originates from what Jesus Christ has already done for us. That’s where we get our identity from, and not from what we do. But being firmly secure in that, we do acts of service that demonstrate love with freedom and zeal and joy! Let us bless others daily in the things that we do for them. Let us go the extra mile to demonstrate love. If it feels like we are laying down our very lives for others, then we are beginning to love like God loves.

Purpose today to be one who loves not in words and speech but in actions and in truth.

As someone once exclaimed in frustration: “Words, words, words; show me!”
