I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep…
I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me
This is one of the great “I AM” sayings of Jesus found in the Book of John. He is the Good Shepherd, and we are his sheep. The story of the Bible is all about this Shepherd. He is the subject and object of all our worship. He is a Great Shepherd indeed. But do you know what the amazing thing is? This Shepherd values the sheep, so much such that he lays down his life for them. And he demonstrated that for us when he died in our place on a cross. He really didn’t have to, but he chose to.
I have heard preachers say “sheep are stupid”. Well, see it that way if you like. I say sheep are valued, blessed, chosen, protected, loved! And all because the Shepherd himself has declared it and has chosen to have it this way. We know his voice and we choose to follow him and to love him back. Give thanks to the Good Shepherd today for all that he has done for you. Worship him for being such a Good and Great Shepherd!
