I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. John 10:11
The I am sayings of Jesus set him apart in some way. Most of them describe him as God. In his claim to be the Good Shepherd, he sets himself apart from others who claim to be shepherds. Here is the distinguishing factor: he lays his life down for the sheep. Which other God do you know who has laid down his life for the sins of the world? Who has given up everything so that men, women and children could be saved? No one else but Jesus.
Some other promises that come with him being our shepherd are:
1. He knows us and we know him, v14. You are not alone. Your deepest need to know and to be known has already been met by Jesus the great shepherd.
2. We lack nothing, Ps 23:1. The one you have as your shepherd owns the earth and everything in it. If you have a need. Ask him. He is your provider.
He’s the real deal!
