Passover

12 ‘On that same night I will pass through Egypt and strike down every firstborn of both people and animals, and I will bring judgement on all the gods of Egypt. I am the Lord. 13 The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are, and when I see the blood, I will pass over you. No destructive plague will touch you when I strike Egypt. Exodus 12:12-13

Here is another wonderful Old Testament story that teaches us a lot about Jesus. The Passover is a Jewish festival which is based on this time in history, when God commanded his people to sacrifice a lamb and to take some of its blood and to apply some of it to the doorpost above and on each side of their door. This would be a sign to the Angel of the Lord so that when his judgement would come, he would see the blood on the door and pass over those houses that had made such a sacrifice. The blood of the lamb was to be a sign allowing those within the house to be spared.

Today, God is still one who judges sin. When we live lives our own way without surrendering them to Jesus, then we are lining up for God’s judgement. Jesus is sometimes known as the Passover Lamb because he has already died as a sacrifice for our sins and because of his blood, God’s wrath and judgement can pass over us. His death is significant. His blood is significant. When you get a chance carry out a study on the blood of Jesus. Perhaps we will also do a devotional series on it next year.

His blood washes and cleanses us. His blood speaks n our behalf. We’re told in Heb 12:24 that his blood speaks a better word than that of Abel. As our Mediator, Jesus’s blood speaks to God on our behalf and takes away his wrath and replaces it with his grace and forgiveness instead.

If you know you know you are a forgiven child of God, then worship him and thank him for his blood. If not, then now is the time to receive him forgiveness and the cleansing of his blood. I leave you with this very powerful and heart-wrenching rendition of Matt Redman’s song, “Nothing but your blood”.You may not be able to watch it to the end, but whatever you do watch will be the most powerful and significant picture you have ever seen. Be blessed!
