Check your habits

Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Joshua 1:8

Everyone wants to be prosperous and successful. Some of your New Year’s resolutions might be towards that end. Here the Bible describes the way to become prosperous and successful as keeping the words of the Bible ALWAYS on your lips – meditating on it DAY AND NIGHT. This describes habit. In other places the Bible talks about praying AT ALL TIMES and not giving up the HABIT of meeting together.

You and I need consistency in those things that God would have us do. Problem is (if we’re honest), we get into the habit of doing things that are either harmful to our spirits or are of no benefit. For example if you compare your habit of getting onto Facebook to that of meditating on Scripture, which would be more of a habit? Why don’t you take time to check your habits and hold them up against God’s standard. Identify things you need to cut down on or cut out of your life and ask for God’s help in cultivating good habits that build up your spirit.
