The Throne

12 when your days are over and you rest with your ancestors, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, your own flesh and blood, and I will establish his kingdom. 13 He is the one who will build a house for my Name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom for ever. 2 Sam 7:12-13

David was a king of Israel who loved God very much. In fact, God described him as “a man after my heart”. He did well as king, well, until a beautiful and married woman came along. But that’s a story for another day. Suffice to say that as a result of what happened, God took away some privileges and David was to sadly not see the fulfillment of some of the promises he was holding on to. A lesson for us too.

However, God gave him promises that were to be fulfilled via his son. He would see to the building of God’s Temple, something David was dying to do. But also God promised a kingdom that would last forever. The best was yet to come and the stage was being set. We will catch up with the story at Christmas but through this lineage, Jesus was to come and we know that God promised that his throne would last forever.

I am just always amazed at the tapestry of God’s story. It is a complicated and intertwined story, but when you step back, it simply looks beautiful and absolutely blows our minds. You see God at work right through the generations and he never once skips a beat. All along his plan is to put his Son Jesus on the throne, a throne that can never be challenged or taken away. A throne that belongs to none other than the King of kings and Lord of lords.

Worship him as you start your day and your week. Allow him to set the tone for the rest of it.
