The Bible – Useful to train

16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Tim 3:16-17

Yesterday, I was at my children’s school where we were being taught on discipline. One of the basic take-homes was this: discipline = training. Also, that discipline comes from being a disciple. Before Jesus left this earth, his mandate to us was that we should make disciples. Paul was giving advice to a disciple maker called Timothy; his advice was that Scripture is a useful tool given to us by God so that we can make disciples. It is “useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness”.

So if you are wondering how to best relate with others in a way that makes them better people, look no further than the Bible. The Bible gives us all the principles and instructions we need to help others to grow even as we ourselves grow. Often we can directly quote Scripture as we help others to see something or as we spur them along so that they gain godly perspective become better disciples, growing in God. Parents, leaders, disciple-makers, friends, the Bible is a God-given tool – use it!
