Light of the world

When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.’ John 8:12

We’ve learned that the devil is busy trying to fill the world and people’s hearts with darkness. Jesus calls himself the Light of the world. Ultimately he is the one (through the Holy Spirit) who brings light into people’s hearts and lives. But guess what or who he uses to bring this light. I’ll give you a clue; it’s found in Matthew 5:14-16. “14 YOU are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

Now that’s phenomenal! You and I are Jesus’s agents, agents of light, bringing the light of God into the world, so much such that we are described as Jesus is…the light of the world! Did you know that the word Christian means ‘little Christ’? So basically, what we see him do in the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, we are to do as well. Realise that in everything you think, say and do, you are being an agent of light – only question is, how bright is your light? Is it as good as darkness or does it chase the darkness and completely outshines the world in example, in power, in fruit and in splendour? Take this as a challenge – light always outshines darkness. That’s our calling, that’s our destiny. Let’s do just that! Shine!
