Guidance – How to make decisions

In my 27 years of being a Christian, I have heard many teachings on guidance and how to hear God’s voice. How do I make decisions especially the big decisions of life? To be honest, they have almost always been very similar, talking about the Word, the Witness of the Holy Spirit, Counsel, Circumstances, etc. etc. All very good. But at our men’s breakfast this week, I heard my friend Mark talk about making decisions in a way that was different. True to form he challenged and questioned things that as good Christians, we have become comfortable with.

I managed to catch up with Mark afterwards to chat a bit more and so, with his permission, the following devotional series is based on what I picked up from his talk. The devotional is inspired by Mark’s talk, but will have a lot of my thoughts and applications as well.

I trust you will be blessed and encouraged to stay close to Jesus so that you will know the will of God at all times. I pray that you would have such a fruitful relationship with the Holy Spirit so that his guidance becomes an everyday thing and as you learn the heart of God you learn to discover what his will is in particular situations you are faced with.

As Mark said to me as he pointed out to the distant sky: “Our God is frighteningly awesome, and yet ever so gentle and caring and loving”. So true! This is our God!
