Work as service

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. Phil 2:3-4

What would your day today look like if you took these two verses and did all you could to put them to practice at work, at school, at home and anywhere else that you went? It’s human nature for us to do things primarily with our own interests at heart and to get ahead of everybody else. I was taking my children to school this morning and there was a song playing on the radio. A quarrel broke out as to whose favourite song it was. Each one claimed it was hers and would simply not allow the others to claim the same for themselves. It’s human nature to want to be better than everyone else in any and every way possible.

Consider 3 to 5 people that you will work closely with today or that you will meet with or interact with in any capacity; they could be colleagues, clients, classmates your spouse and/or children. Tell yourself right now that you will value them above yourself and consider their interests more valuable than yours. What will serving them look like? Can you do it?

May you be fulfilled today as you serve others.
