Prayer: Audience of One

But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father who is unseen. Then your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you. Mat 6:6

Yesterday we knocked the public showy prayer, especially the one that is not backed by a healthy private prayer life. It is important to remember that when we pray, we have an audience of only One. The great majority of our prayer life ought to be done in secret, when nobody else is watching. We need to remember that the effectiveness of our prayer is not determined by how loud we shout when we pray, but by whether our prayer is directed to and received by the One who matters, Our Heavenly Father.

God knows (and we know) that we are serious with our praying and that we are praying for the right reasons when we prioritise the cultivating of our personal prayer life. Prayer is not about looking holy, it’s about engaging with our Heavenly Father. Most of the greatest and biggest things in life are done in private. Take time to pray today – on your own. It will be well worth-it.
