Worry Part 9: The Father knows

31 So do not worry, saying, “What shall we eat?” or “What shall we drink?” or “What shall we wear?” 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. Mat 6:31-32

Yesterday we looked at reason number 1 why you shouldn’t worry about your basic needs, let alone other needs and wants. It is the job for pagans. Jesus gave a second reason – “your heavenly Father knows that you need them”. I love thinking about the reason behind things. For example, of all relationships to use for how God would like to relate to us, why did he choose that of a Father? He could have simply called himself our Friend or perhaps our Manager or Supervisor or any other relationship. But he is our Father, and not only that our heavenly Father.

A good father is one who the children are excited to have around. They know they will be provided for and taken care of and will have lots of fun. They love to jump into his lap and ask for things. In basic terms, when dad is around, everything is OK. Our heavenly Father is one who owns the cattle on a thousand hills and in fact we are told that the earth is his and everything in it. He knows exactly what we need and so we can relax and not worry, he has it covered.

The relationship with our heavenly Father is one that is referred to throughout Scripture. We would do well to cultivate it, study it and prioritise it because in the end it affects absolutely everything. He is your Father, run to Him today.
