Spirit of sonship

14 For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. 15 The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry,‘Abba, Father.’ 16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Rom 8:14-16

Oh my. I love verse 16. It gets me every single time. When God’s Spirit is at work, He somehow talks to our spirit and gives us assurance to let our hearts know that we are the children of God. He settles the issue of sonship in our hearts. It’s by the Holy Spirit that our hearts are able to connect with God at a deep level and cry out “Daddy, Papa”. Basically, the Holy Spirit helps us with the most important relationship of our lives, that with our eternal Father. In verse 14, we see that the Holy Spirit plays a part in validating that we are the children of God. A mark of the children of God is that they are led by the Spirit of God.

I hope you are not shutting out the Spirit of God. I hope that you are allowing him to show you the heart of the Father. The revelations carried in these verses will change absolutely everything in your life. If you get this right, everything else will be ok. Today the Holy Spirit is whispering to your heart, “Behold your Daddy; run to him. He loves you with all the passion of eternity. He rejoices over you. He gave Jesus to die for you so that you might know him and love him too…forever.” Absorb all that the Holy Spirit is saying to you; it will shape the rest of your life and make it count. God is your Father and you can call him Daddy. The Holy Spirit is telling you that today. Listen to him!
