Is your talk wholesome?

Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. Eph 4:29

Unwholesome means not characterised by or conducive to health and moral well-being. The Bible teaches that this kind of talk should not be let out of our mouths. We need to desist from talk that does not lead to the well-being of others. On the contrary when we open our mouths we need for our hearts to be selfless, looking to the needs of our hearers and talking in such a way that meets those needs and benefits them. Our goal in talking is to build others up and not to tear them down or ridicule them or show ourselves to be better than them.

Prov 18:21 tells us that “The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit”. Today, realise the power that that little muscle in your mouth has and determine to use it to build others up. Look for opportunities to speak life into people and their situations. Be encouraging and uplifting. Ask God to help you with that.
