I am the Vine

5 ‘I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. 6 If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. 7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8 This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples. John 15:5-8

Jesus is the vine and we are the branches. A rocket scientist will tell you that the branch needs to remain attached to the vine so that it can continue to serve its purpose and to be fruitful. Apart from Jesus we can do nothing; apart from him, all our work, effort and deeds amount to nothing, we bear no fruit (v2). On the contrary, if we remain in him, we bear fruit (v2), we bear much fruit (v5) and the kind of fruit that will last (v16).

Don’t think that you will have eternal significance outside of Christ. Find your purpose, significance and fruitfulness in Him. Ask him for that today. Ask him to make you fruitful. Play your part and make every effort to remain in him through Bible reading, meditation, prayer worship and service…daily.
