But he continued, ‘You are from below; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world. John 8:23
Jesus lived on the earth as a man until he was 33. He always knew he was just passing through so didn’t allow this world determine his priorities, passions and where he derives pleasure. It’s kind of like when you visit another country, you enjoy the journey but you always know that you are just passing through.
The Bible will show us that since we are in Christ, we are also from above and we are not of this world. So our challenge is to be like Abraham. Here’s what the Bible says about him: “9 By faith he made his home in the promised land like a stranger in a foreign country; he lived in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise. 10 For he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God.” Heb :9-10.
This world is not your home, so don’t get too comfortable with it. Don’t derive your principles, priorities and beliefs from it. Don’t find your identity in what this world tells you. Find it rather from the one who was first to say, “I am from above…I am not of this world”. Jesus!
