Anointed!

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me,
because the Lord has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners
Is 61:1

There are two ways of looking at this. Firstly the Holy Spirit anoints you for a purpose. Secondly, you need the Holy Spirit in order to effectively minister to the poor. These words were those of Isaiah but served as a precursor to Jesus, who would later utter them in an expression of their fulfillment. For Jesus, both ways off looking at this were true. He derived purpose from the anointing of the Holy Spirit and he also relied heavily on the Holy Spirit.

Let us ask the Holy Spirit to fill us and to anoint us the same way he did Jesus. Let us acknowledge and believe that as He fills us, he wants us to minister to the poor and underprivileged in society; this is part of our calling. And as we minister, let us rely daily on the Holy Spirit for compassion, strength, renewed purpose, fruit and power.

Come Spirit come!
